'Making Friends with Polyvagal Theory '

6 Hours CPD

Saturday 30th September on Zoom

6 Hours CPD

£55 (Early bird before 9th Sept £50)

'The most useful CPD I did by far in the last two years. It changed the way I practise'

Priscila Moura, Integrative Counsellor

Trauma survivors often find that their lives are driven in all sorts of directions by their automatic reactions. Polyvagal Theory (PVT) can help to put the clients back in the driving seat with more control over their responses.

PVT provides clients with a user friendly map of their own nervous system and ways it reacts. This builds ability to self-regulate. The client's personal patterns of trauma responses become more understandable and less frightening.

PVT demystifies dissociation. It helps clients recognise and alter the nuances of their particular dissociative patterns.

This workshop offers a good grounding in ways to apply PVT in the therapy room.

You will take away a clear understanding of the theory and ways to integrate it with other approaches including with Energy Psychotherapy techniques. This will be an invaluable addition to your skills.

Comments of course participants:

  • Very well paced workshop, plenty of information without being overwhelming.

  • Extremely useful , thank you for an enjoyable and informative day.

  • I have already (three days after the training) used some of the techniques in a session which really helped the client.

  • Appreciated the demonstrations of methods and clinical examples showing how to bring client/myself out of different autonomic states. These helped me to integrate polyvagal theory.

  • The practical links to working in therapy sessions were really useful.

  • This course took a really confusing subject and gave enough information so I could understand it better, along with the practical ways to use the theory in therapy sessions. Excellent!!

  • I knew quite a lot about PVT beforehand yet still I learned so much. I really appreciate Nina’s gentle, kind and knowledgeable manner in presenting.

  • Nina made everything simple and clear to comprehend. The language she used felt human!

Introduction to Emotional Freedom Technique for therapists

6 Hours CPD (Date to be decided)

Many introductory courses in EFT are aimed at the general population. This course introduces the method in a way specifically useful for therapists.

EFT is a cognitive somatic therapy. That means it involves the body and the mind working together. In EFT the therapist demonstrates tapping on particular acupoints on his/her own body and the clients mirror the tapping on their own body while being guided to focus the mind on various specific aspects of the issue.

By combining ‘tapping’ with talking in a specific way, rapid shifts in emotions and perspectives occur. In addition spontaneous insights often become available to the client.

These therapies can be gradually integrated with other therapy modalities following a basic introductory course. This will bring about good results for clients.

For therapists who choose to further develop these skills through trauma focused training and ongoing supervision the results clients experience can be excellent.

The day is balanced between information, demonstration and skills practise. It provides basic techniques that can be readily integrated with other therapeutic modalities and can be built on in the future.

Dr Phil Mollon author of Psychoanalytic Energy Psychotherapy:

Many of us, having worked for years with other psychoanalytic and cognitive methods, find that energy psychology methods (such as EFT ) appear to offer results that are more rapid, deep and gentle than we or our clients have hitherto experienced.

Comments from participants:

  • I learned so much more than I expected to.

  • It was extremely informative, I felt I gained a lot from the experience.

  • It surpassed my expectations and I really enjoyed it.

  • I feel I can take it with me. I have a client in mind who I think would benefit from using it.

  • It was excellent and I felt it related readily to person centred therapy.

  • Watching the 'live' demonstration was very helpful.

  • Thank you for enjoyable skills sessions a gaining a useful tool to aid my work.

  • I was unsure about what to expect and found it was excellent.

  • It is really helpful to get a tool that helps clients connect with and work with the physical sensations produced by emotions.
